“I joined Sara's year-long program, Novel Resolution, in late January 2023 and never looked back. I did all the lessons and learned about structuring my books in a way that made it easy to follow through. With Sara's encouragement as well as the other writers in our group, I finished my first YA novel in June, revised it through the busy summer and early fall, and then finished my second YA novel before Thanksgiving. I highly recommend the program, and Sara is a gem. Her knowledge and willingness to share herself with her clients make the program an excellent investment for any writer. I will be signing up again next year.”

What’s Included:

Instruction

Online modules with concise video trainings guide you through the process of writing and revising a cohesive and compelling novel. I teach you the methods that I use with my private clients, and you can work at your own pace. You can preview the lesson list here.

Strong Community

Instead of navigating the jungle of social media, you’ll connect with me and your fellow participants in our private Novel Resolution community, hosted in Mighty Networks. Since all participants join at the same time and commit for the year, we become a unified group that supports each other.

Weekly Check-Ins

Set weekly goals every Monday and check in by the following Sunday for accountability. As a bonus, every time you check in, you earn entries prize drawing to receive free coaching on your book!

Group Coaching Q&As

Join me twice a month for Q&A sessions. We’ll address your questions about craft, the writing life, publishing, or any other book-ish topics on your mind. Sessions are recorded for those unable to attend live.

Goal-Setting

Novel Resolution highlights the goal-setting aspect of writing that is often overlooked in writing communities. I’ll teach you how to break down the larger task of novel writing into smaller chunks so you can create a clear plan of action for completing your book.

Story Foundation Feedback

My Story Foundation materials help you develop your book’s Core, Character, Concept, and Craft to ensure you write a cohesive story to engage readers. Each writer will receive written feedback on their Story Foundation Summary, a service which normally costs $150 on its own.

What’s NOT Included:

Guarantee of Completion

While the Novel Resolution program is designed to help finish your novel by the end of the year, there is no guarantee that you will. YOU are the determining factor for getting your words on the page (and sometimes life circumstances like to throw a curve ball too).

Guarantee of Success

Publishing is a subjective business. No one can guarantee your book will secure an agent, be published, or sell thousands of copies. You can be sure, however, that you cannot accomplish any of these things if you don’t have a completed book, so this program helps you work towards that.

Ongoing Written Feedback

The Novel Resolution program does not provide one-to-one book coaching services. Visit my private book coaching page to learn how you can receive ongoing written feedback on your work.

Realistic expectations. Real results.

FAQs

Do I have to be on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to access the community?

Nope! Educational content is hosted in Teachable, and the private community forum is hosted in Mighty Networks.

How much time will this program take?

You can watch ALL the educational content, attend (or watch the replay of) the monthly Q&A call, and participate in ALL the accountability check-ins in just 3-4 hours per month. Novel Resolution is purposely designed to give you solid information in a short time frame so that you can spend the majority of your time WRITING.

Each month will have two hour-long group Q&A calls, and the online lessons are presented in shorter videos (each no more than 15 minutes, many of them much shorter) that won’t add up to more than an hour each month.

You can join any of the online hour-long writing accountability sessions hosted on Zoom - usually 3-5 are scheduled each week.

Weekly check-ins take no more than five minutes. You are welcome to spend as much time as you like to connect with other writers in the online community.

How much does Novel Resolution cost?

The program costs $500 for the year. You may pay in a one-time payment of $500 or two payments (one month apart) of $260 each.

What if I change my mind after purchasing?

You can receive a full refund up to 14 days after your purchase.

Will Novel Resolution work for me if I am writing (insert your book type here)?

Novel Resolution is designed for novelists writing commercial fiction. It will work for those writing for adult, young adult, and middle grade audiences, across most genres. I do not coach literary fiction, erotica, or horror, so if you are writing these genres, then the program is probably not a good fit for you.

If you are writing a novel in verse, graphic novel, memoir, or biography, then the program might work for you - please email me and ask about your specific situation and I will tell you the pros and cons based on your specific project.

Novel Resolution is not a good fit for those writing board books, picture books, early readers, and early chapter books. (If you are writing picture books, I recommend you join the 12x12 Challenge before the February deadline). If you are writing short stories, essays, poetry, nonfiction that is not memoir or biography, or working on any sort of collection, Novel Resolution will not be a good fit for you.

Will Novel Resolution work for me if I have already written my first draft?

Yes. You will have access to lessons that are applicable to where you are in your novel-writing journey. In January, we will spend some time talking about goals and writing practices, and this discussion will include developing your personal plan for the year. Feel free to contact me to ask more questions about your specific circumstances. I want to make sure you join a program that will work for you.

What if my goal is to write more than one novel during the year? What if my goal is to write my novel over two years?

The program is structured to help writers plan, draft, and complete the first revision of their novel by the end of the calendar year. Having said that, each writer is different. Maybe your goal is to spend this year researching and planning your book. Maybe you want to write the first draft. Maybe you already have a written novel but want to revise it so you can pitch. Maybe you'll write a full series. Novel Resolution is designed to help you reach the goals you set for yourself. We will support you along the way!

May I join later in the year?

No. The limited enrollment window in January allows us to form a strong, cohesive cohort for the entire calendar year. Once the deadline passes, you will not be able to enroll until the following calendar year.

Can you guarantee I will finish writing my novel?

Nope. Only you can determine what you can finish or not (and sometimes life likes to make things interesting with circumstances beyond your control). Novel Resolution will provide you with resources, support, and accountability to give you a better chance of reaching your goals, but you need to take action to get it done.

Will I receive written feedback on my work?

Every writer will receive written feedback on their Story Foundation Summary. This is a tool I use to help my private book coaching clients, and normally this service is priced at $150.

Beyond the Story Foundation Summary, I cannot guarantee you will receive written feedback on your work. I will be gifting feedback to the winners of the accountability check-in drawings, but no participant is guaranteed feedback on their writing. If you are looking for consistent feedback, then consider private book coaching.

How long do I have access to the materials?

You will have access to the educational content in Teachable and the private community on Mighty Networks through December 31, 2024.

May I preview the content?

Yes! When Novel Resolution opens again in 2025, you will be able to preview the course syllabus and some of the lessons.

How many people will participate?

I cannot predict the future to answer this question precisely, but 12 writers are participating in 2024. In the event that many writers enroll, I have systems in place to help maintain the “small group” feel of the community. I want writers to feel connected.

Still have questions? Send me a message through my contact form.

“I want to recommend Sara Gentry's Novel Resolution program. I appreciate the weekly and monthly online accountability with setting goals followed by a check-in at the end of the week and the month. … Sara is willing to give suggestions and comments. Her monthly Teachable lessons, especially those on Story Scaffolding, helped me to prepare before I started writing. I intend to sign up for Year 2 to help me with finishing my first draft and take me through revisions.

“We have established a small intimate writing community that cheers us on. When I have doubts I turn to the writers that are in the trenches with me.”
