“I worked with Sara Gentry on my floundering project. I appreciated that she didn’t change my story, but helped me to find the core of what I really was trying to say. Sara knows how to ask the right questions to discover the essential story elements, and she listens, which is so important. After working with Sara, I’m excited again about this story.”

You might be wondering…

What is a book coach?

Just like a sports coach who helps an athlete reach top performance, a book coach helps writers create their best work. A book coach guides a writer through story construction, provides developmental editing, and offers emotional support during the writing process. While there are no guarantees, working with a book coach usually helps writers achieve better results in less time than when writers try to write a book without help.

Do I really need a book coach?

Hard to say. There is no shortage of writing information available to you through books and internet resources. However, many writers find working with a book coach to be a better way of achieving greater results in a shorter time frame than if they had tried doing it all on their own. You can read more about the benefits of working with a book coach here.

Newer writers believe they need to work entirely on their own. Experienced writers know that collaborating with professionals is the most efficient way to make progress.

Can book coaching help me if I…

… have never written a book? Yes.

… have an idea but haven’t written anything? Yes.

… have started my book, but now I’m stuck? Yes.

… have a hot mess of a first draft? Yes.

… want editorial feedback on my pages? Yes.

… want someone to help me brainstorm? Yes.

… want accountability to finish my book? Yes.

… want emotional support as a writer? Yes.

How do I know if book coaching is right for me?

Book coaching offers the greatest benefits to writers who are serious about finishing their books. It requires consistency, dedication, and a willingness to learn and improve along the way.

Book coaching is effective because it is completely tailored to your individual needs. It doesn’t matter if you’ve written a dozen books or have never written more than five pages. It doesn’t matter if you write ten hours a week or in the ten-minute margins of your busy days. It doesn’t matter if you’re a plotter or a pantser. It doesn’t matter if you have no idea what those terms mean! Book coaching will work for you as long as you commit to doing the work.

Both new and experienced writers are welcome. Lukewarm writers need not apply!

"Sara provided detailed suggestions for improving my narrative and overall story structure and described possibilities for my story that I had yet to see. Because of her feedback the end result will be a stronger story. I learned a lot and appreciate having had the opportunity to work with her."
